More About the Team

What can I Expect as a Working Nanny?

A good Nanny has a desire to nurture, the ability to put the safety and needs of children first, has good values and aims to provide the highest level of care. At the same time the nanny should be providing a fun, structured and stimulating, child-centred environment.

Part-time, Night-Time, Live-in, Live-Out Roles

Nannies may choose to work on a live-in or daily basis. A Nanny may be required to work on a sole-charge basis or in partnership with the parents where one or more parents work part-time, or work from home or have social responsibilities that mean they are often at home but need additional support due to a busy schedule.

The Nanny may be expected to drive the children to and from school and other activities, therefore a clean driving licence will be required. You may be provided with a car for duty use or in some cases, parents may expect you to have your own transport and will pay you a fee per mile to cover your expenses such as petrol, wear and tear when transporting their children or running errands relating to your job.

Nanny Tax

We use the Nanny Tax service and can put you in touch, to help support all your tax needs.

Should Nannies Register with Ofsted?

Nannies are not expected to register with Ofsted currently, although this could change. Registration is only the case if the Nanny decided to offer care based in his or her own home rather than the home of the employer, this would then be classed as childminding.

Ofsted Registration Advantages

You can join the voluntary part of the Ofsted Childcare Register (in England) as membership offers some advantages such as:

  • Show employers that you are committed to being a nanny
  • You have a current DBS check in place so that parents can feel confident
  • You will be child and infant CPR trained
  • You will have an awareness of safeguarding and your responsibilities
  • Your employer may be able to claim some tax relief relating to childcare costs

What does a Nanny get Paid?

Nanny salaries range from basic rate pay to very generous pay that includes benefits you would be hard pressed to find in any other job. Many parents need to work full time so need to hire someone they can trust to care for their children.
