More About the Team

What can I Expect as a Working Nanny?

A good Nanny likes to nurture their charges. They have the ability to put the safety and needs of children first, they employ worthy values and aim to provide the maximum level of care. At the same time the nanny creates a fun, structured and stimulating, child-centred environment.

Different Nanny Roles

Nanny roles can vary such as a live-in position or live-out arrangement. A nanny can be required to work on a sole-charge basis or in partnership with the parents where one or more parents work part-time, or work from home. Parents may have responsibilities that mean they are often at home but need additional support due to a busy schedule.

The Nanny may be expected to drive the children to and from school and other activities, therefore a clean driving licence will be required. Some households may provide you with a car for duty use in other cases, parents may expect you to have your own transport and will then pay you a fee per mile to cover your expenses such as petrol, wear and tear when conveying their children or running errands related to your job.

Mock Interviews for Confidence

We know that even the thought of interviews can be daunting, so we will work with you through mock interviews, guidance notes, interview tips and techniques. When you walk into that interview, we want you to be full of confidence.

Nanny Tax Support

Purple Dove use the services of Nanny Tax. We can put you in touch, to help answer all your tax questions.

Should Nannies Register with Ofsted?

Nannies are not expected to register with Ofsted currently. This could change. Registration is only the case if the Nanny decided to offer care based in his or her own home rather than the home of the employer, which would then be classed as Childminding.

Advantages of Ofsted Registration

  • You can join the voluntary part of the Ofsted Childcare Register as membership offers many advantages, for example:
  • Show employers your commitment to being a nanny
  • You’ll have a current DBS check in place so that parents can feel confident
  • You will be child and infant CPR trained
  • You will have an awareness of safeguarding and your responsibilities
  • Your employer may be able to claim some tax relief relating to childcare costs
