Nursery Manager, paying up to £35,000 per annum

The role: Full time, permanent, 40 hours a week

£27,000 to £35,000 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.

The Nursery Manager is responsible for the overall strategic direction, management, and operational effectiveness of the Nursery. The primary goal is to maintain the current 'Good' Ofsted rating and work towards achieving 'Outstanding'. The Manager will lead the staff team, drive excellence in early years education (EYFS), ensure financial sustainability

 Key Responsibilities and Duties

 Leadership, Management, and Quality Improvement

  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement a clear strategy for continuous improvement, with a core focus on achieving an 'Outstanding' Ofsted rating across all inspection areas.
  • Team Leadership: Lead, motivate, and manage all nursery staff, conducting regular supervisions, appraisals, and professional development training.
  • Staffing & Ratios: Oversee staff rotas, recruitment, induction, and retention, ensuring statutory staff-to-child ratios are consistently met.
  • Budget Management: Manage the nursery budget, control expenditure, and monitor financial performance to ensure sustainability.
  • Policy Implementation: Ensure all nursery policies and procedures are rigorously implemented and reviewed regularly, particularly those relating to health and safety and EYFS curriculum delivery.

 Safeguarding and Child Welfare 

  • Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL): Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead, ensuring that all staff members are trained, confident, and proactive in identifying and reporting safeguarding concerns.
  • Compliance: Ensure the nursery is fully compliant with all legal and statutory requirements, including the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), relevant Local Authority guidelines, and health and safety legislation.
  • Welfare: Promote the health and emotional well-being of all children, maintaining high standards of care, hygiene, and nutrition.

 Education and Curriculum

  • EYFS Oversight: Lead the implementation of a stimulating and inclusive play-based curriculum that meets the developmental needs of all children and actively prepares them for primary school.
  • Assessment and Progress: Oversee the assessment process, ensuring accurate tracking of children’s progress and effective communication with parents regarding learning and development.
  • Inclusion: Champion inclusive practice, ensuring the needs of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) are met effectively.

 External Relations and Business Development

  • Marketing and Admissions: Drive the nursery's admissions process, managing enquiries, tours, and the four-step application process to ensure target occupancy and financial viability.
  • Primary School Partnership: Actively manage and enhance the collaboration with the adjoining primary school to ensure a seamless transition for children. The Nursery Manager must clearly define and uphold the nursery's independent status while maximizing partnership benefits, such as priority transition for children.
  • Parent Liaison: Build and maintain excellent relationships with parents and carers, promoting strong parent partnerships and ensuring effective two-way communication regarding the child's learning and welfare.

 Person Specification 

Category Requirements Qualifications Full and relevant Level 3 qualification in Early Years Education or higher (e.g., Degree/EYTS/EYPS). Experience Proven experience in a managerial or deputy role within a nursery/early years setting. Experience of leading and managing an Ofsted inspection. Knowledge Expert knowledge of the EYFS framework, Ofsted requirements, and child protection/safeguarding legislation. Skills Excellent communication (written and verbal), strong leadership, and business acumen (budgeting and marketing).
